At a meeting held in Thailand, the SAFETYNET Board members elected Philippine health official, Dr. Enrique A. Tayag as its new Chairperson. Dr. Tayag replaces China’s Dr. Guang Zeng, whose term concludes this year.
Dr. Tayag is an Assistant Secretary of the Philippines Department of Health, and concurrently the Director of the Bureau of Local Health Systems Development, and the spokesperson of the Department of Health.
Dr. Tayag is a noted epidemiologist, particularly for his work on Dengue, having trained with the fledgling Field Epidemiology Training Program of the Philippines in 1990. He has served at the San Lazaro Hospital, at Regional Health Offices, and as Director of the National Epidemiology Center of the Philippines.
