SAFETYNET Bangladesh Launches National Guideline for Managing AMR Outbreaks in Healthcare Facilities

Dhaka, Bangladesh — December 1, 2025.Safetynet Bangladesh has marked another major milestone with the official launch of the National Guideline for Managing Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Outbreaks in Healthcare Facilities of Bangladesh. The guideline was unveiled during a national dissemination program held at Hotel Golden Tulip, Banani, with the respected Director General of DGHS, Prof. Abu Jafor, serving as Chief Guest.

A Collaborative Effort Against AMR
The comprehensive guideline is the product of a joint initiative by DGHS, WHO, and SAFETYNET, reflecting months of coordinated effort and technical expertise. Developing this framework required a structured sequence of activities, including:
Multiple expert group workshops
Extensive feedback compilation from stakeholders
Situation analyses across four major tertiary hospitals
In-depth interviews with key informants to capture contextual insights
Drafts of the guideline underwent rigorous discussion and feasibility testing in two tertiary hospitals, ensuring its practicality and effectiveness before finalization.
Recognizing Contributions
The success of this initiative was made possible by the unwavering support of subject matter experts—clinicians, microbiologists, epidemiologists, hospital leaders, and IPC focal persons—whose valuable contributions shaped the guideline. Over the past six months, exceptional cooperation was also received from CDC DGHS, the WHO team, and colleagues at IEDCR, underscoring the strength of institutional collaboration in tackling AMR.

A Milestone Event
The launch event brought together DGHS leadership, development partners, senior professors from diverse disciplines, and public health experts. Their presence added significant value and honor to the occasion, highlighting the collective commitment to strengthening Bangladesh’s healthcare system against the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance.
