Under the U.S. CDC Cooperative Agreement, SAFETYNET, in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and the Ministry of Environment, successfully launched Cambodia’s first Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) Frontline – One Health Module. The inaugural workshop took place at the Tribe Hotel in Phnom Penh on March 10, 2025, marking the beginning of a 12-week training course. The first workshop was conducted from March 10–14, 2025.
This three-month training program brought together 20 participants (7 women) from the three governmental agencies. The pilot training aims to strengthen Cambodia’s One Health team’s capacity at both national and sub-national levels in surveillance and outbreak response.

Building on the core competencies of the original FETP course, the first workshop focused on the public health surveillance system and the One Health approach to promote cross-sectoral collaboration. The workshop included lectures, interactive exercises, and case studies, facilitated by trained mentors and instructors from all three sectors.

The first workshop successfully concluded on March 14, 2025. Following the workshop, participants will return to their workplaces to continue their regular duties while completing their Field Work Interval 1 projects. These projects include:
Conducting cross-sectoral surveillance system site visits
Producing brief surveillance reports using the One Health concept
Performing surveillance data quality audits
Participants will reconvene for the second workshop at the end of April 2025 to continue their training and share their fieldwork experiences.
This pioneering initiative underscores SAFETYNET’s commitment to strengthening public health capacity and fostering a collaborative One Health approach in Cambodia.
