Fee range

  • Translation/interpretation services for exploratory meetings with government, civil society organizations and community-based organizations: $1,000 / day

  • Translation/interpretation services for capacitybuilding events: $1,000 / day for three days

  • Translation of technical briefs and communications assets: For negotiation, based on number of words

About ImagineLaw and RISE v. Tobacco

ImagineLaw is a public interest law group established in 2016, with the goal to help communities build evidence-based and people-centered public health solutions so people may lead healthier and meaningful lives. Our organization is comprised of lawyers and advocates collaborating with the public sector, civil society, and communities for policy development, planning, implementation, and advocacy.


RISE v. Tobacco is ImagineLaw’s ongoing tobacco control project, funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies. RISE v. Tobacco aims to scale-up implementation of tobacco control interventions in the Asia Pacific Region (APR). This project will benefit national governments, civil society organizations (CSOs), and community-based organizations (CBOs) in specific countries in the APR who are engaged in tobacco control, non-communicable disease prevention and public health. As part of the project, ImagineLaw will establish a subgrants program to benefit five APR countries and two local governments in the Philippines.


Job description

The translator will provide simultaneous and/or consecutive interpretation services during project events and meetings, as required by the Project Manager. The translator may also be tasked to produce accurate translations of various documents as required. In providing the services, the translator shall take into account the local context and nuances of original texts.


Basic qualifications

  • Significant experience in translating policy and/or scientific documents from Fijian to English, and vice versa

  • Excellent command of Pijin and English language

  • Proficiency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office tools

  • Self-motivation in achieving outputs and meeting deadlines

  • Not affiliated, directly or indirectly, with the following industries: tobacco; electronic nicotine and non-nicotine (ENDS/ENNDS) delivery systems; antipersonnel mines and its components; breastmilk substitutes; alcoholic beverages; ultra-processed food and beverages


Preferred qualifications

  • Degree in community development, development studies, or equivalent

  • A general understanding of tobacco control policies and programs in Solomon Islands

  • Experience engaging CSOs and CBOs in countries in the Asia Pacific
