Dr. Srividya KV, a Public Health Workforce Development Fellow at SAFETYNET India, and Dr. Mogan KA, Consultant Epidemiologist, represented SAFETYNET at the World Congress of Epidemiology 2024 in Cape Town, South Africa in September 2024. Dr. Srividya presented a poster on SAFETYNET’s work in India during 2018-2023 to strengthen field epidemiology capacity of the health workforce while Dr. Mogan mentored an Intermediate FETP officer from the state of Odisha, for her oral presentation and also presented his work on a Mumps outbreak he investigated as an advanced FETP trainee.
Dr. Srividya and Dr. Mogan represented SAFETYNET in the panel discussion on “How Field Epidemiology Training Programs are Integrating Non-Communicable Diseases in Their Training.” The panel involving representatives from AFENET, EMPHNET, and SAFETYNET. Speakers responded to questions from Dr. Carl Reddy, TEPHINET Director, and from an engaged audience on how each of these regional FETP networks are building capacity of FETPs to integrate NCDs in their training courses. During the session, Dr. Srividya shared SAFETYNET’s efforts in capacity building of FETP trainers in NCD through a TOT course and conducting NCD-themed webinars, as well as creating a new NCD case study based on local experience.
