We are pleased to invite you to attend the ACHS webinar with Professor Weiwen Zhang, Baiyang Chair Professor of Synthetic Biology, Tianjin University, titled: “Governance of Dual-use Risks of Synthetic Biology: Recent Efforts in China”.

Scientific progress in cutting-edge biotechnology has enabled the development of new medical countermeasures and disease surveillance capabilities. However, ease of use, accessibility, and lower cost of biotechnology could lead to unintentional misuse or deliberate abuse of dual-use cutting-edge biotechnology, resulting in serious economic and security consequences.

During this webinar, Professor Zhang will explain how the Tianjin University Center for Biosafety Research and Strategy raises awareness of the dual-use risks of biotechnology, develops solutions and policies to address these risks, and reinforces ethical practice in the scientific community in China.
